India is home to Asia’s largest dairy cooperative — Banas Dairy, located in Palanpur, Gujarat.

This massive dairy collects up to 10 million litres of milk per day during peak seasons, making it one of the largest milk procurement systems in the world.

Banas Dairy operates under the umbrella of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, the organisation behind the iconic Amul brand. It has built a vast network of over 1,700 village-level dairy cooperatives and millions of milk producers, ensuring a steady supply chain from rural farmers to consumers.

The cooperative model has transformed the rural economy in Gujarat, providing stable income to farmers, especially women, and strengthening India’s position as the world’s largest milk producer.

Apart from milk collection, Banas Dairy also processes and markets a wide range of dairy products, contributing significantly to India’s dairy exports and domestic consumption.

Its scale, efficiency, and farmer-centric approach make it not just Asia’s largest dairy, but also a global benchmark in cooperative-driven agriculture.
