Australia has begun tightening its student visa regulations in 2026, leading to a significant rise in rejection rates for Indian applicants.

Reports indicate that nearly 40% of Indian student visa applications are being rejected, as authorities step up scrutiny to curb misuse of the system.

The crackdown is part of Australia’s broader effort to ensure that student visas are used strictly for education purposes and not as a backdoor for migration.

Officials are focusing on factors such as genuine student intent, financial stability, and choice of institutions, leading to stricter evaluation processes.

The move has raised concerns among Indian students and education consultants, as Australia has long been a preferred destination for higher studies.

With tighter rules now in place, applicants are expected to provide stronger documentation and clearer academic plans to improve their chances of approval.
