Regional airline FLY91 began operations on the Kochi–Agatti sector on Monday, establishing a daily air link between Kerala and the Lakshadweep islands. The airline’s ATR 72-600 aircraft received a water cannon salute at Cochin International Airport to mark the inaugural flight.
Early Demand and Community Response
Online bookings for the new route opened last month, and the airline reported strong early demand. Residents of Lakshadweep welcomed the service, which aims to improve connectivity to the islands through a major southern gateway.

Expansion of Existing Services
FLY91 has been operating daily flights to Goa for the past two years. The new Kochi–Agatti route complements the existing Goa–Agatti service, giving passengers more travel options and enhancing mainland connectivity for Lakshadweep.
Benefits for Locals and Tourism
Manoj Chacko, Managing Director and CEO of FLY91, said the service will make travel for education, healthcare, employment, and commerce easier for residents of Agatti and neighbouring islands. He also noted that it will support the steady growth of tourism in the region.
Ceremonial Inauguration
Before the maiden departure, the first passengers were felicitated at both airports and received novelty boarding passes. A cake-cutting ceremony was held at Kochi Airport, attended by FLY91’s Head of Ground Operations, Gautam Salaskar, and Kochi Airport Director Manu G.
Focus on Remote Connectivity and Future Expansion
Agatti Island, part of Lakshadweep, is known for its coral reefs and lagoons. FLY91 said the Kochi route aligns with its goal to improve air links to remote regions. As part of its expansion plan, the airline intends to begin operations at six additional regional stations: Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Hubballi, Dabolim Airport, Nanded, and Indore.
