The Indian government is preparing to launch a new mobile application that allows Aadhaar users to update key personal details—such as name, date of birth, residential address, and phone number—directly from their smartphones. The app, developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), aims to reduce the need for in-person visits to Aadhaar Seva Kendras.

Streamlined Digital Updates
The e-Aadhaar app is designed as an all-in-one, user-friendly platform to make Aadhaar management simple and secure. Users will be able to update their personal information online, eliminating the paperwork and long queues traditionally associated with Aadhaar updates. UIDAI officials have indicated the app is likely to be launched by the end of this year.
AI and Face ID for Security
The app will integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Face ID technology to deliver secure and seamless Aadhaar services nationwide. Starting in November, biometric authentication such as fingerprint and iris scans will still require visits to enrolment centers, but other updates will be handled digitally. This approach is intended to reduce identity fraud risks and speed up the process.
Automatic Document Verification
The e-Aadhaar app will automatically fetch data from verified government sources for verification purposes. Supported documents include birth certificates, PAN cards, passports, driving licenses, ration cards, MNREGA records, and electricity bills, simplifying address and identity verification for users.
Aadhaar Good Governance Portal
In addition to the app, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has introduced the Aadhaar Good Governance Portal. This platform streamlines the approval process for Aadhaar authentication requests, enhancing efficiency, accessibility, and inclusivity in the Aadhaar system.
