Developed by The ePlane Company, an IIT Madras-incubated startup, the Made-in-India ePlane is designed to transform short-distance urban transportation through electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technology. The aircraft is being developed for applications ranging from air taxis to emergency medical services and cargo transport.

Unlike conventional helicopters, the ePlane uses an all-electric propulsion system, making it significantly quieter, more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Its compact design enables vertical take-off and landing, eliminating the need for long runways and making it ideal for congested urban environments.
The company has also established India’s first integrated electric aircraft prototyping facility at IIT Madras, bringing design, manufacturing and testing under one roof to accelerate product development and certification.
With growing interest in advanced air mobility worldwide, the ePlane represents a major step toward positioning India as a global innovator in next-generation aviation while supporting cleaner, faster and more sustainable transportation solutions.
