In a major push toward digitisation, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is developing a new mobile application — tentatively called the e-Aadhaar app — that will allow users to update Aadhaar-linked details such as name, address, date of birth, and phone number directly through their smartphones.
Expected to launch by the end of 2025, the e-Aadhaar app is designed to reduce dependency on physical enrollment centers. For most updates, users will no longer need to make in-person visits; biometric authentication like fingerprints or iris scans will be required only in select cases, beginning November 2025.
The app will integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Face ID verification to ensure secure, paperless transactions, significantly reducing the risk of identity fraud while making updates faster and more convenient.
In a significant move, UIDAI also plans to auto-fetch verified data from trusted government databases, including PAN, passports, driving licences, birth certificates, ration cards, and utility bills, minimizing the need for manual document submissions.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has rolled out the Aadhaar Good Governance Portal to streamline approvals for Aadhaar authentication requests. This initiative is expected to improve accessibility, simplify submissions, and promote inclusion across Aadhaar-related services.
Together, these developments mark a transformative step in India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, blending ease of use with robust security for over one billion Aadhaar holders.
