Hyderabad-based Blackbuck Electric Vehicles has unveiled the ELON 3X, a 15-metre multi-axle electric sleeper coach designed for long-distance intercity travel. The company describes it as India’s first electric sleeper coach in this configuration, marking a new development in the country’s premium electric passenger transport segment.

Developed and engineered in India, the ELON 3X features a three-axle configuration with 42 sleeper berths, along with accommodation for a driver and co-driver. It also provides more than 9 cubic metres of dedicated luggage space to meet the requirements of long-distance bus operators.
Two Battery Options for Long-Distance Travel
The ELON 3X is built on Blackbuck EV’s Born-Electric Skateboard Architecture, a platform designed specifically for electric mobility rather than adapted from a conventional diesel-powered bus.
The coach will be available with two battery configurations of 425 kWh and 565 kWh. These options are intended to address different operating requirements for intercity transport operators.
The company has not yet disclosed the vehicle’s driving range, charging specifications or pricing. These details will be important for operators assessing its suitability for long-distance routes.
Advanced Suspension and Safety Features
The three-axle coach features independent suspension, active tag-axle steering and Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS). These systems are designed to improve ride comfort, highway stability and manoeuvrability, particularly for a vehicle of its size.
Safety features include an Electronic Braking System (EBS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and disc brakes on all wheels.
Blackbuck EV says the vehicle has undergone four years of engineering and product development, including two years of real-world road testing. The testing programme focused on handling, stability, ride comfort, system integration and durability under actual road conditions.
Reservations Open, Production in 2027
Blackbuck EV has opened reservations for the ELON 3X and is engaging with prospective intercity transport operators. Commercial production is targeted to begin in mid-2027.
R K Raju, Founder and CEO of Blackbuck Electric Vehicles, said the company developed the coach around a purpose-built electric platform, with a focus on passenger comfort, operational value for transport operators and energy efficiency.
The ELON 3X adds to India’s developing electric intercity transport market. Its commercial adoption will depend on factors such as driving range, charging requirements, pricing and operating costs, which are yet to be announced.
