Indian Railways is set to introduce a door-to-door parcel delivery service in eight major cities following a successful pilot run. The service, called ‘Rail Parcel App – Ghar Se Ghar Tak’, will allow customers to book parcel pickup and delivery from their homes through a digital platform.

The service will initially cover Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Pune. It aims to simplify parcel bookings by eliminating the need for customers to visit railway stations or complete conventional paperwork.
How the Service Will Work
Under the new model, logistics partners will collect parcels from customers and deliver them to the recipient’s doorstep. Indian Railways will handle transportation between stations, while private logistics partners will manage first-mile pickup and last-mile delivery. They may also offer packaging and other value-added services.
The Rail Parcel App will function as a digital marketplace connecting customers with selected logistics providers. Users can book consignments and make payments online, making the process more convenient for individuals, businesses and e-commerce operators.
Booking Window and Refund Policy
Bookings will open 15 days before the scheduled train departure and remain available until one day before departure. Logistics partners must hand over consignments to railway staff at least one hour before the train leaves.
If a booking is cancelled before the parcel is picked up, the railway freight will be refunded after deducting a ₹10 clerkage charge. Refunds for pickup and delivery charges will depend on the respective logistics partner’s policy.
Railways Expands Its Logistics Services
The initiative is part of Indian Railways’ broader efforts to strengthen parcel logistics and improve first- and last-mile connectivity. The Rail Parcel platform was previously introduced as a pilot by South Central Railway in February 2026 across 17 stations in seven cities, in partnership with private logistics providers.
By combining rail transport with doorstep services, Indian Railways aims to make parcel movement more accessible and strengthen its role in the country’s expanding logistics market.
