PM Modi Inaugurates RBI’s ₹169-Crore Data Centre in Odisha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) new data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute at Info Valley-II in Jatni, near Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on October 25, 2026. The two facilities have been established at an estimated cost of ₹169 crore to strengthen India’s financial infrastructure and cybersecurity capabilities.

Spread across 18.55 acres, the facility is designed to provide secure, resilient and scalable computing infrastructure for the RBI and the wider financial sector. Its foundation stone was laid by former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on March 22, 2023.
The data centre will host critical payment and settlement systems and support other key RBI initiatives. It is expected to improve the reliability, efficiency and reach of digital financial services as India’s banking ecosystem becomes increasingly technology-driven.
Data Centre to Support Critical Payment Systems
The new facility will strengthen the infrastructure supporting essential financial services and help improve the continuity of banking operations. It is the RBI’s second data centre, following the existing facility in Navi Mumbai.
The data centre has received the Uptime Institute’s Tier IV certification, a benchmark for infrastructure resilience and availability. The facility is designed to meet the RBI’s computing requirements while supporting the growing volume and complexity of digital financial transactions.
Its location was selected for geographical stability, with the aim of reducing exposure to seismic risks and other potential disruptions.
Cybersecurity Institute to Focus on Training and Research
The accompanying Cybersecurity Training Institute will serve as a dedicated centre for training, research and capacity building in cybersecurity and enterprise technology.
The institute is expected to develop specialised expertise to address emerging digital threats facing banks and financial institutions. Its focus areas will include advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing, alongside cybersecurity and data centre technologies.
The initiative comes as digital payments and online banking services expand across India, increasing the importance of protecting financial data, payment networks and banking systems from cyberattacks.
Strengthening India’s Digital Financial Infrastructure
The inauguration reflects the growing importance of secure digital infrastructure in India’s financial system. As digital banking connects more people to financial services, reliable technology systems and trained cybersecurity professionals are becoming increasingly important.
The new facilities are expected to support the RBI’s operational requirements while strengthening the wider financial sector’s ability to manage emerging technological risks.
The event was attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other senior officials.
