Global investment firm Blackstone plans to double its investments in India to $100 billion over the next five years, strengthening its presence across sectors including real estate, infrastructure, financial services, healthcare and digital infrastructure. The firm currently has around $50 billion invested in the country, President Jon Gray told CNBC-TV18 in an interview.

The proposed expansion reflects Blackstone’s long-term outlook for India, supported by economic growth, a rising middle class, infrastructure development and opportunities in the country’s capital markets.
Data Centres and AI Infrastructure in Focus
Blackstone is exploring opportunities linked to artificial intelligence, including data centres, cloud infrastructure and computing capacity. As demand for digital services and AI applications expands, these areas are becoming important investment destinations.
The firm is also looking to increase its exposure to infrastructure and credit, while exploring opportunities in private equity and growth equity. Its investment strategy is expected to span businesses and assets that could benefit from India’s expanding consumer market and growing demand for technology and services.
Real Estate Remains a Key Investment Area
Real estate continues to be a significant part of Blackstone’s India portfolio, including logistics facilities, hotels and shopping centres. The firm is also looking at opportunities in housing and infrastructure as urbanisation and consumer spending create demand for new assets and services.
Healthcare and financial services are other areas of interest. Gray has highlighted the potential created by India’s expanding middle class, which is expected to increase demand for healthcare, travel, housing and financial products as incomes rise.
India’s Capital Markets Attract Global Investors
India’s capital markets are another factor supporting Blackstone’s investment plans. Gray has pointed to the country’s ability to provide exit opportunities for private equity investors through public listings.
Blackstone said it has taken 14 companies public in India and sponsored five of the country’s six publicly listed real estate investment trusts (REITs). Such listings allow investors to realise returns and recycle capital into new opportunities.
Gray also stressed the importance of policy certainty and clarity for foreign investors, noting that continued economic growth and supportive policies could expand investment opportunities.
A Larger Bet on India’s Growth
Blackstone’s target comes amid shifts in global investment flows and periods of volatility in public markets. The firm remains focused on finding businesses that can grow with India’s economy, rather than relying on a single sector.
If achieved, the $100 billion target would significantly increase Blackstone’s exposure to India and reinforce the country’s role in its global investment strategy. The pace of deployment will depend on the availability of suitable assets, business opportunities and market conditions over the next five years.
