Bengaluru-based Ostrich Mobility Instruments has partnered with US-based Pride Mobility Products Corporation in a national sales collaboration aimed at expanding access to advanced assistive mobility and rehabilitation solutions across India.

The partnership brings together Pride Mobility’s global portfolio of powered mobility and rehabilitation products with Ostrich Mobility’s domestic distribution network, engineering expertise and customer service capabilities. The companies aim to reach more people seeking greater mobility, independence and improved quality of life, particularly elderly individuals and people with disabilities.
Pride Mobility, headquartered in Duryea, Pennsylvania, has operated since 1986 and offers products through brands including Jazzy, Quantum Rehab, Go Go, Baja Mobility and VivaLift!. The partnership is expected to strengthen the company’s presence in India through Ostrich’s established market network.
From a Kerala Initiative to a National Mobility Business
Founded in August 2007 by five alumni from Sasthamcotta in Kollam district, Kerala, Ostrich Mobility was established to develop mobility solutions for people with physical disabilities. The company began with a prototype using a Maruti Suzuki Baleno wiper motor and has since grown into an Indian manufacturer of powered mobility products.
Its journey has been featured as a management case study at Harvard Business School. The company has also received recognition through awards such as the ET Now Leaders of Tomorrow Award and the SIDBI-ET MSME Award.
According to the company, more than 22,000 individuals across India use its mobility solutions. Its products are designed to support independent movement for education, employment, daily activities and social participation.
Indigenous Engineering for Indian Conditions
Ostrich Mobility focuses on developing and customising powered wheelchairs to suit individual needs and the challenges of Indian infrastructure. Its research and development work has included collaborations with the Ministry of Heavy Industries and SASTRA University on indigenous PMDC and BLDC motor technologies.
The company has also worked with IIT Madras’ Rehabilitation Research and Device Design (R2D2) centre as a commercialisation partner and collaborated with IIT Kanpur to translate research into practical mobility solutions.
Its patented technologies include Split Frame Suspension Technology, designed to maintain wheel contact on uneven surfaces, and a joystick-operated Automatic Wheelbase Adjuster that helps users navigate narrow spaces.
Manufacturing Capacity and After-Sales Support
Ostrich operates a manufacturing facility in Bengaluru with an in-house monthly production capacity of more than 700 units. With support from qualified local manufacturing and supply partners, the company says capacity can be scaled to more than 1,800 wheelchairs per month.
The company states that its quality systems are supported by CE certification and ISO standards covering quality management, medical devices, environmental management and occupational health and safety.
Alongside manufacturing, Ostrich emphasises product customisation and doorstep service. It offers extended warranty options and describes its service model as providing lifelong doorstep support, with the aim of reducing interruptions to users’ mobility when equipment requires maintenance.
Its corporate social responsibility clients include Accenture, Target, Cisco, Mercedes-Benz and ABB. The company also supplies specialised mobility solutions through government programmes and the Canteen Stores Department of India’s defence forces.
Expanding Access to Global Rehabilitation Technology
The partnership with Pride Mobility expands Ostrich’s product ecosystem to include internationally developed rehabilitation solutions. For Pride Mobility, the collaboration provides a route to reach more customers in India through a domestic partner with local market knowledge and service capabilities.
The companies aim to combine global product development with local engineering, distribution and after-sales support. The collaboration comes as assistive technology and rehabilitation products play an increasingly important role in enabling independent living and improving accessibility.
The partnership’s impact will depend on product availability, affordability and the ability to provide reliable service across India’s diverse markets. Both companies intend to use their complementary strengths to broaden access to mobility solutions for people with disabilities and older adults.
