Narayana Murthy’s family office, Catamaran Ventures, plans to double its exposure to India over the next five years, with a focus on opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI), data centres and precision manufacturing. The strategy aims to invest in businesses that can build specialised capabilities and serve global customers.

Deepak Padaki, president of Catamaran Ventures LLP, said the firm is targeting annual returns of 16% to 18%. Its investment approach covers both listed and privately held companies, with an emphasis on sectors where Indian businesses can expand into higher-value markets.
Catamaran manages around $1.4 billion for Infosys founder Narayana Murthy. Its portfolio includes investments in companies such as SpaceX and the National Stock Exchange of India.
AI is a key area of interest for the firm. Rather than focusing only on companies developing AI models, Catamaran is looking at businesses offering AI-powered enterprise solutions and specialised services to large companies worldwide.
The growing use of AI is also increasing demand for data centres and supporting infrastructure, including computing capacity, energy systems, cooling and storage. These developments are creating opportunities for Indian businesses that can provide technology services and infrastructure to global firms.
Precision manufacturing is another priority. As companies diversify their supply chains, Indian manufacturers could gain opportunities to produce specialised components and products that meet international standards. Catamaran’s strategy reflects its interest in businesses positioned to benefit from these shifts in technology, infrastructure and global manufacturing.
