India is confident of achieving its $1 trillion exports target in the financial year 2026-27 (FY27), despite slowing global trade growth, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said.

Speaking at the curtain-raiser event for the 31st CII Partnership Summit, Goyal said the first-half export figures had strengthened his confidence in meeting the target. India recorded exports of goods and services worth a record $863 billion in FY26 and is aiming for nearly 16% growth in FY27.
The target comes amid challenging global conditions, with international trade growth projected at around 2.5% to 3%. Goyal credited India’s businesses, including 63 million micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), global capability centres and around 250,000 startups, for supporting export growth.
According to the Commerce Ministry, India’s combined exports of goods and services during April-August 2026 were estimated at $399.27 billion.
Goyal also highlighted the country’s expanding network of free trade agreements (FTAs). India has concluded nine FTAs with 38 developed countries over the past four and a half years, creating opportunities for Indian exporters to access new markets.
He urged the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to establish FTA utilisation cells across its state councils to help businesses, particularly MSMEs, understand trade agreements, identify export opportunities and benefit from preferential market access.
India’s $1 trillion export ambition reflects its push to strengthen global trade links, improve competitiveness and expand the international presence of Indian businesses.
