Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has announced that the proposed Keralam Institute of Organ and Tissue Transplant in Kozhikode will be established within 30 months.
Satheesan made the announcement while inaugurating the silver jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Heart Care Society in Kozhikode.

The institute will be developed on 20 acres of land at Chevayur Golf Link Road at an estimated cost of Rs 271 crore. It will feature advanced medical facilities and bring various organ transplant services under one roof. According to the Chief Minister, this could reduce treatment costs to around one-third of current expenses.
The new hospital complex will have 350 beds and 10 operation theatres. A fully equipped skin disease hospital will also be built on the same campus at a cost of Rs 35 crore.
The institute is planned as a major organ transplant and research centre. It is expected to conduct around 1,100 corneal, 520 kidney, 50 heart, 40 lung and 120 bone marrow transplant surgeries every year.
Satheesan said the initiative is part of the state’s plan to develop Kerala as a major healthcare destination for both domestic and international patients. The state will also focus on wellness and rehabilitation centres and facilities for holistic treatment of conditions such as stroke.
The government also plans to conduct large-scale campaigns focused on disease prevention and early diagnosis as part of the broader healthcare initiative.
