Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and Titagarh Rail Systems have formed a 50:50 joint venture to undertake comprehensive maintenance of Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets for 35 years. The agreement marks a long-term partnership between the two companies in India’s railway manufacturing and maintenance sector.
The joint venture will be established as a private limited company, with an initial paid-up share capital of ₹50 lakh. BHEL and Titagarh Rail Systems will each hold a 50% stake and nominate two directors to the company’s board.

The BHEL-Titagarh consortium has a contract to manufacture and maintain 80 Vande Bharat trainsets. The contract is valued at nearly ₹24,000 crore and includes maintenance responsibilities for 35 years.
The new company will be responsible for comprehensive maintenance of the trainsets throughout their service life. The partnership is intended to ensure operational readiness, safety and reliability of the Vande Bharat sleeper fleet.
The long-term maintenance agreement also gives the companies a role beyond train manufacturing, covering lifecycle support for the sleeper trainsets as Indian Railways expands its Vande Bharat network.
