Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will undertake a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka from September 8 to 10, as India looks to further strengthen its defence and maritime partnership with the island nation.
During the visit, Singh will hold consultations with Sri Lankan leadership on a range of bilateral and regional issues and interact with the Indian diaspora in Colombo. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of External Affairs.
The visit comes amid efforts to deepen India-Sri Lanka cooperation in regional security, defence and maritime affairs. The two countries share longstanding civilisational ties and a broad partnership spanning security, defence, trade, economic cooperation and people-to-people relations.
The Defence Ministry said the visit is in line with India’s Neighbourhood First policy and the MAHASAGAR vision of mutual advancement in security and growth across regions.
The talks are expected to provide further momentum to India-Sri Lanka defence cooperation and strengthen coordination on maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.
