Uttar Pradesh is stepping up efforts to attract Japanese companies by proposing a dedicated 500-acre Japan City near Noida International Airport, as the state looks to expand its manufacturing and technology ecosystem.

The proposal was highlighted at the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath invited Japanese investors to explore opportunities across sectors such as semiconductors, electronics, automobiles, electric mobility and data centres.
The proposed Japan City will come up in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region and is planned as an integrated industrial cluster for Japanese companies and their suppliers. The state had earlier identified 500 acres for the project.
The investment meet also saw the foundation stones laid for three projects by Escorts Kubota and Minda Corporation, involving a combined proposed investment of Rs 3,191 crore.
Escorts Kubota is investing Rs 2,025 crore in a manufacturing facility in YEIDA Sector 10, which is expected to create more than 3,800 jobs. Minda Corporation is planning two projects in Sectors 10 and 24 with an investment of Rs 1,166 crore, with around 6,440 employment opportunities expected.
Together, the projects could generate more than 10,000 jobs in the state.
Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh aims to combine its young workforce with Japanese expertise in lean manufacturing, automation, robotics and precision engineering.
The state is also looking to strengthen its existing Japanese industrial presence. Companies including Denso, Nagase and Seiko Advance already operate in Uttar Pradesh, while the proposed Japan City is expected to attract more Japanese businesses and suppliers.
Uttar Pradesh is also promoting its semiconductor ecosystem around the YEIDA region and seeking investments in advanced manufacturing and technology.
The state has emerged as an important electronics manufacturing hub, with the government stating that a significant share of India’s mobile phone production takes place in Uttar Pradesh.
More than 200 Japanese business leaders, industrialists and policymakers are participating in the investment meet, which runs until August 23. The programme also includes a delegation led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture.
The proposed Japan City and new manufacturing projects highlight Uttar Pradesh’s growing push to attract Japanese investment and establish itself as a major destination for advanced manufacturing, technology and industrial development.
