Tata Trusts has announced plans to establish 40–50 not-for-profit general hospitals across India as part of a major expansion of its philanthropic initiatives. Chairman Noel Tata said the Trusts aim to improve access to quality healthcare through a cross-subsidy model, where premium-paying patients help fund treatment for economically weaker sections.
Alongside healthcare, Tata Trusts is intensifying its focus on higher education by advocating the creation of more world-class universities in India. Noel Tata emphasised that the country needs greater investment in education infrastructure and policy support to develop globally competitive institutions that can nurture future talent.
The initiative reflects Tata Trusts’ long-standing institution-building legacy, which includes pioneering contributions to healthcare, research and education. With the proposed hospitals and renewed emphasis on higher education, the Trusts aim to create lasting social impact while strengthening India’s human capital and public welfare infrastructure.
