India has opened applications for the first round of 2026 vehicle import quotas from the UK under the newly implemented India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has invited applications from eligible importers for the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ). Applications can be submitted from July 21 to August 4, 2026.
The first allocation will cover 9,316 vehicles, including passenger cars and goods vehicles. Eligible applicants include original equipment manufacturers, dealers and channel partners authorised by vehicle manufacturers.
Under the trade pact, vehicles imported from the UK can enter India at concessional customs duty rates within specified quotas. The agreement provides for a gradual reduction in import duties on eligible vehicles over time.
The move comes shortly after the India–UK trade agreement came into force on July 15, opening up new opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.
The quota-based system is expected to give Indian consumers greater access to UK-made vehicles while allowing the government to manage imports through defined annual limits.
