The Ministry of Railways has approved the recruitment of 4,098 technical personnel across railway zones as part of its efforts to strengthen operational safety and improve efficiency. The vacancies span 35 technical categories, including several roles that are considered critical to the safe functioning of the railway network.
Key positions include Junior Engineers, Depot Material Superintendents, Chemical and Metallurgical Assistants, and other technical roles essential for railway infrastructure maintenance and operations. The recruitment decision was taken after assessing vacancies reported by various railway zones through the Human Resource Management System (HRMS).
Among the identified vacancies, the Permanent Way category accounts for the highest number with 845 posts, followed by 470 vacancies in the Works department and 450 in the Carriage and Wagon department. The ministry has also approved the recruitment of 197 Junior Engineer (Signal) posts and 79 Junior Engineer (Telecommunication) posts.
According to the ministry’s timeline, the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) will begin issuing Centralised Employment Notifications (CENs) from July 21. Zonal railways have been instructed to complete all internal formalities, including compliance with reservation norms for SC, ST, OBC and EWS categories, before uploading the final vacancy lists.
The latest recruitment drive follows the recent notification for 6,565 technician posts already announced by the Railways. Employee unions have welcomed the move, saying that filling long-pending vacancies in safety-related categories will reduce the workload on existing staff, improve maintenance standards, and enhance passenger safety across the railway network.
