The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is reviewing Meta’s response to a government notice issued over alleged advertisements and content related to child sexual exploitation and abuse material (CSEAM) on Instagram. The company had been asked to explain how such content appeared on its platform.

According to government officials, Meta has submitted its response within the stipulated deadline, and the ministry is currently examining the company’s explanation before deciding on any further action.
The notice was issued after reports raised concerns over alleged child sexual abuse-related advertisements on Instagram. The Centre has stressed that online platforms must comply with Indian laws and maintain robust safeguards against harmful and illegal content.
Meta has maintained that it has a zero-tolerance policy towards child exploitation and has highlighted its existing safety measures and content moderation systems. The government is expected to determine its next steps after completing its review of the company’s response.
