Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) will establish its first international campus in Indonesia, marking a major milestone in India’s global higher education ambitions. The announcement was made during bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta.

The proposed campus will be located at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Malang, East Java, and is expected to serve students from Indonesia as well as the wider ASEAN region. It aims to strengthen academic collaboration, leadership development and executive education while expanding India’s educational presence in Southeast Asia.
IIM Bangalore plans to roll out the campus in two phases. The first phase will offer Executive Education Programmes for professionals and business leaders, followed by degree-granting programmes in the second phase. The curriculum will focus on emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, sustainability, healthcare and global supply chains.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to deepen India–Indonesia cooperation in education, technology, startups and innovation. The overseas campus is expected to enhance people-to-people ties, create new opportunities for students across the region and reinforce India’s growing role as a global provider of quality management education.
