Aster DM Healthcare and Quality Care India Limited (QCIL) have announced a combined investment of ₹1,661 crore to significantly expand healthcare infrastructure in Kerala. The move is aimed at strengthening hospital capacity, improving access to advanced treatment, and boosting the state’s overall healthcare ecosystem.

Focus on Meeting Kerala’s Healthcare Vision
The announcement followed a recent meeting between Dr. Azad Moopen and Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan. Discussions covered a wide range of priorities, including healthcare infrastructure development, medical education, skill training, health technology adoption, medical tourism, and CSR-led healthcare initiatives.
Dr. Moopen said Kerala continues to be a key region for Aster due to its strong pool of healthcare professionals, especially doctors and nurses who are widely respected in India and abroad. He also reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting Kerala’s ambition of becoming a leading healthcare destination in the country.
Large-Scale Bed Expansion and New Hospital
As part of the expansion plan, Aster and QCIL aim to add 1,315 hospital beds over the coming years. Aster alone will contribute 834 beds, including a new 454-bed hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The facility is expected to improve access to advanced medical care in southern Kerala.
Strengthening the Hospital Network
Following the merger of Aster and QCIL, the combined entity will operate 11 hospitals across Kerala with a total capacity of 4,575 beds. The group currently employs more than 18,400 healthcare workers and expects to create nearly 7,900 additional jobs through the planned expansion.
Cancer Care CSR Initiative
Dr. Moopen also highlighted Aster’s ₹120 crore Cancer Care CSR programme, which aims to set up advanced cancer treatment facilities across India over the next three years. The first phase includes installing a Linear Accelerator (LINAC) facility in Wayanad to improve access to radiation therapy in underserved regions.
Impact on Healthcare Access and Economy
The expansion is expected to significantly strengthen Kerala’s healthcare capacity while also contributing to job creation and broader regional economic growth. It is designed to improve access to quality treatment, especially for patients in remote and underserved areas.
