Reliance Jio is planning to establish a large low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation consisting of approximately 1,650 satellites to provide broadband services across India.

The ambitious project is aimed at expanding internet connectivity beyond the reach of conventional terrestrial networks, particularly in rural, remote, and geographically challenging regions.
LEO satellites operate much closer to Earth than traditional communication satellites, allowing them to offer lower latency and improved internet performance for users.
The proposed satellite network is expected to complement Jio’s existing telecom infrastructure, creating a hybrid connectivity ecosystem capable of delivering broadband services across a wider geographic area.
The initiative comes amid growing interest in satellite-based internet services globally, with several companies investing heavily in next-generation space communication networks.
Industry observers believe the project could significantly enhance India’s digital infrastructure, support government connectivity goals, and improve internet access for millions of people in underserved communities.
If implemented, the satellite constellation would position Reliance Jio as a major player in India’s emerging satellite broadband market while accelerating the country’s transition toward universal digital connectivity.
