In an innovative step to protect frontline personnel from extreme weather conditions, Bengaluru Traffic Police have introduced 20 air-conditioned helmets for officers working on city roads. The pilot project is aimed at helping traffic personnel cope with prolonged exposure to heat while managing traffic at busy intersections.

The AC helmets are equipped with battery-operated cooling systems that circulate air within the helmet, providing relief from high temperatures and reducing heat-related discomfort. Similar cooling-helmet initiatives have been tested in other Indian cities as authorities look for ways to improve working conditions for outdoor personnel.
Traffic police officers often spend several hours outdoors amid heat, dust, and vehicle emissions. Officials believe the new helmets can help reduce fatigue, improve concentration, and support overall well-being while on duty.
The initiative comes as several states adopt measures to protect outdoor workers from rising temperatures, including cooling gear, hydration support, and protective equipment.
If the Bengaluru pilot delivers positive results, the technology could be expanded to benefit more traffic personnel across the city, offering a practical solution to one of the toughest challenges faced by outdoor law enforcement officers.
