Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has recorded a 41% increase in domestic cargo handling during the first five months of FY 2026–27 compared with the same period last fiscal year.
The airport currently handles an average of around 350 metric tonnes of domestic cargo every month, reflecting growing demand for fast and reliable movement of time-sensitive and essential goods across India.
The cargo handled at the airport includes perishables such as flowers, chilled fish and ornamental fish, along with medicines, vaccines, medical equipment, courier consignments, mobile phones, automobile parts and other essential commodities.
Courier cargo operations are also gaining momentum, with companies increasingly handling both inbound and outbound consignments through the airport. The expanding cargo network is strengthening Thiruvananthapuram’s role in Kerala’s regional logistics ecosystem.
The recent commencement of full-fledged Export-Import (EXIM) operations at Vizhinjam International Seaport is expected to create further opportunities. The proximity between the airport and the seaport could enable stronger air-sea cargo connectivity, allowing businesses to select transportation modes based on the urgency and nature of their shipments.
With domestic air cargo volumes rising and Vizhinjam emerging as a major maritime gateway, Thiruvananthapuram is positioned to develop into an integrated multimodal logistics hub, strengthening Kerala’s connectivity with national and global supply chains.
