Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Monday announced that Kerala will establish Centres of Scientific Temper across the state in the name of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, with the aim of nurturing scientific thinking and awareness among students.

Speaking at the state-level Praveshanotsavam held at Government Model Girls Higher Secondary School, Pattom, to mark the reopening of schools, the Chief Minister said Nehru was the first national leader to emphasize the importance of scientific temper and that Kerala would carry forward this vision through dedicated institutions.
Global-Standard Centres of Excellence on the Anvil
The Chief Minister also unveiled plans to establish Centres of Excellence modelled on leading international institutions. These centres are envisioned to provide students with world-class education and create learning environments that meet global standards.
He said the state is preparing for major reforms in both the general and higher education sectors, ensuring that educational institutions and academic programmes remain aligned with international developments and emerging trends.
Preparing Students for an Era of Rapid Transformation
Highlighting the unprecedented pace of technological advancement, Satheesan stressed the importance of equipping students with the skills needed to succeed in a constantly evolving world.
“Artificial intelligence is moving towards superintelligence. We are living in a time of continuous transformation, and students must stay updated with the latest developments,” he said.
The Chief Minister noted that Kerala’s future education strategy would focus on helping students navigate a knowledge-driven economy shaped by innovation and technological disruption.
Aiming to Attract Students from Across the Globe
According to Satheesan, the government’s long-term vision is to create educational institutions that not only offer world-class learning opportunities but also attract students from outside India.
He called upon parents and teachers to play an active role in identifying and nurturing the talents of children from an early age, describing young learners as Kerala’s most valuable investment.
