Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday in a politically important meeting that comes just weeks after assuming office and nearly 12 years after their last known interaction.

High-profile meeting sparks political discussion
The meeting took place at Seva Teerth in the national capital and lasted around 25 minutes. The interaction quickly drew attention amid growing interest over the changing political dynamics between the Centre and Tamil Nadu’s new leadership.
Following the meeting, Vijay arrived at Tamil Nadu House in Delhi, where he was welcomed with a ceremonial guard of honour during his first official visit to the capital as Chief Minister.
First official Delhi tour as Chief Minister
Vijay’s visit comes shortly after he won the trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly following the rapid political rise of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Sources said the Chief Minister is also expected to meet Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during his Delhi schedule.
Meetings planned with Congress and alliance leaders
Vijay is also likely to hold discussions with senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge at 10 Janpath. Posters featuring Rahul Gandhi and Vijay were reportedly displayed outside the residence ahead of the meeting.
Leaders from Left parties and the Indian Union Muslim League are also expected to meet Vijay at Tamil Nadu House.
TVK’s rapid rise reshapes Tamil Nadu politics
The Delhi visit comes amid TVK’s remarkable electoral breakthrough in Tamil Nadu. Vijay’s party emerged as the single largest force in the Assembly elections, winning 108 seats.
He later secured the confidence vote on May 13 with backing from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML legislators.
During the floor test, 144 MLAs voted in favour of the Vijay-led government, while 22 opposed and five abstained.
AIADMK rebellion added dramatic twist
The trust vote also witnessed a major political surprise after 25 AIADMK legislators reportedly cross-voted in support of Vijay’s government. Expelled AMMK MLA Kamaraj also backed the administration.
Political significance under close watch
Although neither the Prime Minister’s Office nor the Tamil Nadu government disclosed details of the conversation, the meeting is being closely observed in view of Tamil Nadu’s changing political landscape and Vijay’s increasing national visibility after entering active politics.
The interaction also comes as regional parties across southern India reassess political strategies ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
