Karthiyayini Kochi, a popular Kerala style seafood restaurant from Kochi, has opened its doors in Coimbatore, bringing its coastal flavours, community dining concept and signature seafood dishes to Tamil Nadu.

The new outlet is located at Kings Complex on Sungam Bypass Road and offers a warm, open setting with casual, community style seating designed to give a homely dining experience. The restaurant focuses on fresh seafood, served alongside traditional Kerala meals, attracting strong interest from seafood lovers in the city.
The menu features a wide range of coastal dishes including squid roast marinated with birds eye chillies, crispy tiger prawns, kalanji (Asian seabass) fry, seer fish, snapper, prawns and Kerala style fish curry. Each dish highlights fresh catch brought from Kerala, supported by a tightly managed supply chain that ensures seafood reaches Coimbatore within hours.
Founders Jajina and Vinoo Vijayan said Coimbatore was a natural choice for expansion due to strong demand from customers who regularly travelled from Tamil Nadu to their Kochi outlets. They added that the restaurant’s focus remains on fresh fish and authentic Kerala recipes, while also introducing lesser known varieties of seafood to new audiences.
The Coimbatore branch is led by Jajina’s brother Jerin Rajan, who managed operations and training with support from a team of chefs from Kochi. Ingredients like coconut, spices and vegetables are sourced from Kerala to maintain authenticity, while staff were trained over several months to replicate the original flavours.
Signature dishes include Kerala red rice served with shrimp curry, tangy fish curry, chemmeen chammanthi, raw banana kootu, and the highly praised Alleppey style fish curry made with mango pieces. The restaurant also serves seafood biryani, puttu with fish curry, and weekend specials that reflect traditional home style cooking.
The founders say their cooking is rooted in family traditions, blending influences from central and northern Kerala, while also experimenting with flavours inspired by travel and customer feedback. The Coimbatore outlet continues this philosophy, aiming to recreate the comfort of a Kerala home meal while introducing a broader seafood experience to the region.
