India Plans Big Export Growth

Piyush Goyal has set an ambitious goal for India to reach $1 trillion in exports this year and $2 trillion within five years, calling it a national mission for building an Atmanirbhar Bharat. He noted that exports have already crossed about $863 billion despite global uncertainty, showing steady momentum in both goods and services trade. He said the government is actively working on Free Trade Agreements with nearly 38 developed countries to expand market access and improve competitiveness for Indian exporters.

He urged businesses to track import trends more closely using official trade data to identify opportunities for domestic production and reduce dependence on foreign goods. He stressed that import substitution and export growth must work together to strengthen the economy. He also pushed for stronger promotion of Swadeshi, warning that rising consumption without matching local production could lead to higher imports. According to him, industries must step up to meet growing domestic demand while also expanding capacity for global markets.

He highlighted the role of MSMEs, startups, and young entrepreneurs in driving value addition, especially in agriculture and fisheries where export potential is strong but processing remains limited. He said improving quality, productivity, and packaging is essential for Indian products to compete internationally and gain long-term global acceptance.

He also encouraged wider adoption of digital payment systems like RuPay and UPI as part of strengthening India’s financial ecosystem. He concluded that India’s growing middle class and rising consumption present huge opportunities, but only sustained domestic production and innovation will ensure long-term self reliance and progress toward Viksit Bharat 2047
