Maruti Suzuki is reportedly discontinuing the Maruti Suzuki Ignis in India, marking the end of its run after years of declining demand.

Dealer sources indicate that production of the Ignis has already stopped, and bookings have been halted in several locations, although the company has not yet made an official announcement.
Launched in 2017 and sold through the premium Nexa network, the Ignis stood out for its quirky design and compact urban appeal. However, changing consumer preferences and the growing popularity of SUVs impacted its sales performance.
In a strategic shift, Maruti Suzuki is now working on a new micro SUV (codenamed Y43), which is expected to compete with models like the Tata Punch and other compact SUVs in the segment.
This move reflects a broader industry trend where automakers are focusing more on SUV-style vehicles, as demand for hatchbacks continues to decline in India.
If confirmed, the transition from Ignis to a micro SUV will mark another step in Maruti Suzuki’s shift towards strengthening its presence in the fast-growing compact SUV market.
