Vedanta chairman Anil Agarwal has pledged to invest ₹10,000–15,000 crore in a major philanthropic initiative focused on education and healthcare. Sharing the news on X on February 3, Agarwal said the commitment honors the wishes of his late son, Agnivesh, to make a meaningful contribution to society.

This new pledge builds on his earlier promise to donate 75% of his personal wealth to society following the sudden death of his only son, who passed away in New York due to cardiac arrest while recovering from a skiing accident.
Agarwal attended the Prime Minister’s Roundtable with Global Energy Leaders during India Energy Week, marking his first official engagement since the tragedy. He expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his condolences and support, saying the Prime Minister’s advice to remain strong and continue their work for the country offered great solace.
Humbly following his son’s wishes, Agarwal announced his plan to channel ₹10,000–15,000 crore toward initiatives in education, healthcare, or other areas that benefit society. He described PM Modi as a compassionate leader whose words provided immense support to his family in coping with grief.
Reflecting on his son’s passing, Agarwal called it “the darkest day” of his life, describing Agnivesh as not only his son but his friend, pride, and world. Despite Agnivesh’s achievements, Agarwal said he remained simple, warm, and deeply human.
