American Express Travel has placed the Indian Himalayas at the top of its 2026 Trending Destinations list. The ranking is based on global Card Member booking patterns and insights gathered from its network of travel consultants. What this really shows is a growing appetite for new places and first-time experiences, with many travellers saying they feel more energized when they step into unfamiliar hotels or destinations.

A Mix of Adventures Across the Globe
The 2026 list spans ten locations. Along with the Indian Himalayas, the lineup includes Killarney in Ireland, Las Vegas in the US, Marrakech in Morocco, Marbella in Spain, Japan’s Okinawa Islands, Panama City, Costa Rica’s Papagayo Peninsula, Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, and St. Julian’s in Malta.
Each destination offers something different: Marbella’s coastal charm and Andalusian culture, Okinawa’s island-hopping adventures, and Las Vegas, which Amex says topped its hotel booking charts in 2024.
What Travellers Want
According to American Express Travel, people are leaning toward a wider variety of travel styles and environments rather than sticking to familiar choices. Audrey Hendley, President of American Express Travel, said their Card Members are enthusiastic travellers looking for thoughtful guidance when planning their trips. She noted that the 2026 list is designed to offer exactly that kind of tailored inspiration, paired with the perks that come with booking through Amex Travel.
