The Adani Group has announced its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector with a landmark 1126 MW / 3530 MWh project, set to become India’s largest and one of the world’s biggest single-location BESS installations. The project, involving over 700 advanced battery containers, is expected to be operational by March 2026.
Located at Khavda, home to the world’s largest renewable energy plant, this project aims to strengthen India’s energy security and enable round-the-clock clean power. By easing peak load demand, reducing transmission congestion, and minimizing solar energy wastage, the system will enhance grid stability and efficiency. Built on cutting-edge lithium-ion technology and supported by smart energy management systems, the facility is designed for high reliability and optimal performance.

Chairman Gautam Adani said the initiative marks a new era for India’s clean energy transition. He emphasized that energy storage is vital for a renewable-powered future and that this project reaffirms the Group’s commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions at scale.
The company also revealed its long-term plan to expand its storage capacity to 15 GWh by March 2027 and reach 50 GWh within the next five years. This expansion underscores Adani Group’s ambition to build a resilient, future-ready energy ecosystem aligned with India’s net-zero and climate goals.
By entering the large-scale energy storage market, Adani Group joins global leaders in shaping the world’s clean energy future while positioning the Khavda site as a central hub for renewable generation and storage.
