Tata Advanced Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the co-production of Javelin anti-tank missiles in India, marking a potential expansion of the country’s domestic defence manufacturing capabilities.
The development comes days after the United States announced a Javelin missile deal with India. The proposed co-production arrangement could help strengthen India’s anti-armour capabilities while supporting the localisation of advanced defence manufacturing.

The Javelin is a man-portable anti-tank guided missile system developed in the United States and is designed to engage armoured targets.
For Tata Advanced Systems, the initiative could further expand its role in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. It also aligns with the government’s broader push to increase indigenous production of military equipment and reduce dependence on imports.
The proposed collaboration could additionally deepen defence industrial and technology ties between India and the United States, while creating opportunities for greater participation by Indian manufacturers in advanced missile production.
