Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a major milestone in India’s high-speed rail ambitions, receiving a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) worth ₹4,467.7 crore for the track work package T-1 of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. Package T-1 marks the final track installation phase of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, bringing the vision of a world-class bullet train closer to reality.
The journey to this award began in October 2024, when the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) invited bids for the contract, which carries a 5.9-year completion timeline of 2,157 days. Three firms responded, submitting technical bids that were opened on 30 April 2025. By 3 July 2025, after technical evaluation, one firm was disqualified, leaving two contenders.

The financial bids were opened the next day, on 4 July 2025, and underwent careful evaluation, which concluded on 13 August 2025. In the end, L&T emerged as the lowest bidder, with a proposal of ₹4,467.7 crore, edging out the DRA Infracon–DMRC JV bid of ₹4,698 crore. On the same day, NHSRCL formally issued the LoA to L&T.
Package T-1 covers the design, supply, and construction of track works for the double-line high-speed railway stretching from Mumbai Station at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (MAHSR Km -0.255) to Zaroli Village (Km 156.600). It connects several critical sub-projects along the route:
- Package C-1 (1.028 km): Includes the underground BKC Station being built by the MEIL–HCC JV.
- Package C-2 (20.377 km): Involves an underground tunnel executed by Afcons Infrastructure.
- Package C-3 (135.45 km): Covers an elevated viaduct and three stations under construction by L&T itself.
In short, Package T-1 is not just laying tracks; it is the final link tying together a complex network of tunnels, viaducts, and stations, setting the stage for India’s first high-speed rail corridor.
