A jeweller from Surat, Gujarat, has crafted a stunning 18-carat gold bust of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, weighing 156 grams. This exquisite piece was created to commemorate the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) impressive victory in the recent State Assembly elections.
Celebrating the BJP’s Success
In the elections held in December, the BJP secured a remarkable 156 out of 182 seats. Reflecting this achievement, the bust’s weight was specifically set at 156 grams, according to Basant Bohra, the owner of Radhika Chains, the jewellery-making firm behind this creation. The bust has quickly gained popularity among the public, attracting interest from many potential buyers. However, Bohra has yet to decide on selling this remarkable tribute.
A Personal Tribute to Modi
“I am a fan of Narendra Modi and wanted to create something special in his honour,” Bohra stated. The project took approximately three months, involving nearly 20 artisans who worked diligently at the factory to complete the bust. Bohra, originally from Rajasthan and a Surat resident for 20 years, expressed his satisfaction with the final result. Notably, the bust is not currently for sale, and as such, there is no price tag attached. The gold used for the sculpture is valued at around ₹11 lakh.
Adjustments Made for Symbolism
Interestingly, the bust was completed in December but initially weighed slightly more than 156 grams. Upon learning of the BJP’s election success, the artisans made adjustments to the bust’s weight to symbolise the party’s achievement accurately.
Bohra has previously crafted a gold replica of the Statue of Unity, which he later sold, showcasing his skill and dedication to creating meaningful works of art. The gold bust of Modi stands as a testament to both his craftsmanship and the political landscape in India.
