Swiggy, a leading convenience platform, has partnered with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to introduce Swiggy Skills. This new initiative is designed to provide a wide range of skilling and employment opportunities within Swiggy’s food delivery and quick commerce network.
Official Launch and Objectives
Launched on September 7 in New Delhi, Swiggy Skills aims to create new employment, internship, and training opportunities in restaurant operations and retail management. The initiative was officially announced by Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Minister of State for Education.
Key Features of Swiggy Skills
An MoU was signed between the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Swiggy to formalize this initiative. The key features of Swiggy Skills include:
Integration with Skill India Digital Hub: The initiative will integrate with MSDE’s Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), providing around 2.4 lakh delivery partners and staff from Swiggy’s 2 lakh restaurant partners access to online skill development courses, offline certifications, and training modules.
Connection to Opportunities: Youngsters trained under MSDE’s programs will be connected to opportunities within Swiggy’s ecosystem of restaurants and retail operations. This will help them find suitable roles in the food and beverage (F&B) sector.
Recruitment and Training: Swiggy Instamart will offer recruitment to 3,000 individuals nationwide. Additionally, 200 people trained by MSDE will receive training and internships in Swiggy’s quick commerce operations. Swiggy’s employee volunteering program will also develop training modules on emerging topics such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Marketing, Retail, Quick Commerce, and Logistics.
Government and Company Perspectives
Minister Jayant Chaudhary emphasized the importance of the logistics sector in achieving India’s goal of “Viksit Bharat @ 2047.” He highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in accelerating workforce development and creating new opportunities in the sector.
Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, noted that India’s F&B and retail sectors are rapidly expanding, contributing around 13% to the national GDP and creating significant employment. He expressed confidence that Swiggy Skills will play a crucial role in supporting this growth and providing valuable skills and opportunities to the workforce.
Swiggy Skills represents a significant step forward in bridging the gap between skilling and employment within the food delivery and quick commerce sectors. Through this initiative, Swiggy and MSDE aim to foster a skilled workforce ready to meet the demands of an evolving industry.
