Chandrayaan-3: A Historic Achievement
On August 23, 2023, India made history when the Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully achieved a soft landing on the moon’s surface. This landmark event positioned India as the fourth country to land on the moon and the first to reach the lunar South Pole. Recognizing the significance of this accomplishment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 23 as National Space Day, a day to honor India’s advancements in space technology.

The theme for this inaugural National Space Day is “Touching Lives While Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga.” The theme reflects the far-reaching impact of India’s space program, not just in scientific achievements but in improving the lives of its citizens through space-based technology.
Union Ministers Celebrate India’s Space Achievements
Prominent figures from the Indian government took to social media to express their pride and enthusiasm for National Space Day. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted the evolution of India’s space program, noting its humble beginnings and its current status as a global leader in space exploration. He emphasized the role of Indian Oil’s Cryogenics in supporting these advancements and looked ahead to the upcoming Gaganyaan mission in 2024.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also shared his excitement, praising ISRO’s success with the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission and the upcoming Aditya-L1 solar mission. He underscored the importance of space exploration in shaping India’s future and called for national pride in the country’s achievements.
