The UAE Central Bank revealed its latest initiative – a new Dh500 polymer banknote. This modern banknote, set to enter circulation on Thursday, November 30, stands out with its distinctive blue hue, designed for easy identification.
Commitment to Sustainability
The forefront of the Dh500 banknote showcases the Terra Sustainability Pavilion in Expo City Dubai, an architectural marvel embodying the UAE’s dedication to a sustainable future. This design pays homage to the visionary principles set forth by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, emphasising the nation’s commitment to sustainable development in culture, tourism, and beyond.
Bridging Past and Future
Flipping the banknote reveals the reverse side, featuring the Museum of the Future in Dubai. Serving as a bridge between the past and the future, this architectural and engineering masterpiece symbolises the nation’s continuous journey towards progress. Additionally, iconic landmarks like Emirates Towers and the Burj Khalifa adorn the reverse side, showcasing the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and technological advancement. The Burj Khalifa, standing tall at 828 metres with over 160 floors, serves as a beacon of sustainability by harnessing solar power for a significant portion of its energy needs.
A Leap in Durability and Sustainability
A strategic move towards sustainability is evident in the Central Bank’s choice of polymer material for the new banknote. This decision makes the Dh500 note two or more times more durable than its traditional counterparts while being fully recyclable, thereby minimising its environmental impact.
Cutting-Edge Security Features
In a bid to stay ahead in the fight against counterfeiting, the new banknote incorporates state-of-the-art security measures. The multicoloured security chip technology, known as KINEGRAM COLORS®, is a notable addition. Notably, the UAE becomes the first country in the Middle East to utilise the largest foil strip of this kind on banknotes. This groundbreaking technology has already been employed in the new version of the Dh1000 banknote, marking a significant milestone for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions in the ongoing battle against counterfeit currency.
The introduction of the new Dh500 polymer banknote reflects the UAE Central Bank’s commitment not only to financial innovation but also to sustainable development and cutting-edge security. As the nation strides confidently into the future, this latest addition to its currency offerings symbolises a fusion of tradition and progress.
