Take your pet for a rail ride with Indian Railways
A touching video released by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw proves that a passenger may carry their beloved dog on a train in complete comfort and safety. The tweet depicts a lady travelling in First Class with her favourite dog. The video, which went viral on social media, shows a woman and her pet dog happily napping on a berth. Both the woman and the dog are shown enjoying the classic luxury of a train trip in the quick video. The Minister remarked, retweeting a passenger’s initial post, “Indian Railways at your service 24/7.” After the message, social media users expressed surprise that dogs could travel large distances by rail.
People can travel with their pets on Indian Railways. According to an IE research, over 2,500 pets travel by rail each month, as figures reveal. The Indian Railways has several possibilities for transporting a pet dog. A passenger can reserve a “dog box” for his beloved dog based on availability at the parcel van. The availability of dog boxes might be checked at the train station’s parcel office. The tariffs are available on the Indian Railways website. The cost of transporting a dog in a dog crate might be Rs 30 per kg each pet dog. It would charge Rs 60 per kilogramme for carrying in AC first class and First Class with a passenger.
Dogs are not permitted in Sleeper Class, AC2 tier, AC 3 tier, or AC Chair Car. By making a reservation with the parcel office, owners can transport puppies or kittens in a basket. While only one dog is scheduled for each train, such service is given on a first-come, first-served basis on select trains. The freight price for puppies and kittens is Rs.20. Pet owners must adhere to various requirements when traveling with their cherished animals. They are only permitted to travel with their dogs in AC First Class. A commuter must reserve a whole four-berth cabin or a two-berth coupe — a set of one lower bed and one upper berth — for his pet dog, according to railway rules. The booking charge is calculated on the basis of the weight of the pet and the distance of travel.
