Maruti Suzuki India, one of the biggest manufacturers in the nation, is working on a project that would use cow dung to produce biogas for its carbon-neutral internal combustion engine vehicles like CNG, biogas, and ethanol cars.

According to the report, Maruti Suzuki has stated that this programme is a part of its attempts to find environmentally friendly transportation options and lower the carbon emissions from its vehicles.

“To provide a broad range of products and services, Suzuki will deliver not only battery EVs but also carbon neutral internal combustion engine vehicles that use CNG, biogas, and ethanol mixed fuels,” the Japanese automaker said in a global presentation on its growth strategy for 2030.

The business continued by saying that cow dung, which is dairy, is easily accessible and can be provided from the nation’s rural areas.According to the auto giant, Suzuki CNG models, which make up over 70% of the CNG car market in India, can consume this biogas.

According to the company’s global presentation, Suzuki intends to create biogas-based CNG vehicle solutions in India and export them to other agricultural regions including Africa, Asean, and Japan. The company stated, “We believe that the biogas business in India not only contributes to carbon neutrality but also fosters economic growth and contributions to the society of India.

Maruti Suzuki and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) had earlier in 2022 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to launch a biogas demonstration project. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation division Banas Dairy, NDDB, and SMC then signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) to begin commercial biogas production by the middle of 2024.
