Indian Railways introduces first aluminium freight rake. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated it at Bhubaneswar Railway Station. It has been fully designed and developed in India. It was done in collaboration with HINDALCO, RDSO, and Besco Wagon. The single rake in its lifetime saves over 14,500 tonnes of CO2. It is 85 percent recyclable and has 180 ton extra carrying capacity. It is lightweight and requires lower maintenance. Compared to steel rakes, it has a longer life. It is part of India’s initiative to build a green network.
