Cryptocurrencies shot into fame in the last two years. People around the world have been trying their luck in this new sphere with new coins and exchanges, since then. The latest news from the crypto world is that the Forbes crypto billionaires list has got seven new additions this year, marking a 58% increase.
Cryptocurrency trading platform Binance’s CEO and founder Changpeng Zhao remains the undisputable richest man in the crypto industry with a net worth of $65 billion. This Canadian crypto billionaire is also the 19th richest person in the world. According to Forbes, he owns a minimum of 70% of Binance. He also holds a small chunk of Bitcoin and an undisclosed amount of BNB, Binance’s token.
Second on the list is Sam-Bankman Fried, CEO of FTX, with a net worth of $24 billion. Interestingly, this 30-year-old American crypto billionaire has decided to give away his entire fortune over his lifetime.
Third, comes Brian Armstrong, CEO and founder of Coinbase crypto exchange, with a net worth of $6.6 billion. Recently, Brian has been in the news for advocating against the EU Parliament’s proposed crypto legislation.
New names who crossed the $1 billion mark include Gary Wang, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of crypto exchange FTX; Nikil Viswanathan and Joseph Lau, co-founders of web3 company Alchemy; and Devin Finzer and Alex Atallah, co-founders of OpenSea NFT marketplace.
Some other crypto billionaires are Chris Larsen of Ripple, Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss of Bitcoin, Son Chi-hyung of Upbit, and Barry Silbert of Digital Currency Group. Tim Draper of Bitcoin & other cryptocurrencies holds 19th place.
Meanwhile, a new report by crypto exchange Gemini says that India leads in the total number of first-time crypto investors. More than 54% of respondents from India were first-time investors in cryptocurrencies over the past year. India is followed by Brazil and Hong Kong with each of them having 51% first-time investors.
Interestingly, more women are investing in cryptocurrencies now. And, investors around the world are in need of more educational resources for investing in digital assets.
