Animal Husbandry Startup Grand Challenge 2.0
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, in partnership with Startup India has launched the ‘Animal Husbandry Startup Grand Challenge’, to scout for innovative and commercially viable solutions to address the problems faced by the animal husbandry and dairy sector. The challenge was launched by Prime Minister on 11th September 2019 at a national animal disease control programme in Mathura.
The challenge was open for application to startups from 11th September 2019 to 30th October 2019, on the Startup India portal – www.startupindia.gov.in. 157 applications were received in total for the six problem statements
The second edition of the challenge is now being launched. It is critical for the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) to keep scouting for innovative solutions and harnessing the power of new technologies in these sectors.
SCO Startup Open Innovation Challenge
The objective of this challenge is to enable startups from the SCO Member States to engage with established corporates. By doing so, the startups and corporates can co-create solutions and solve real-life problems. The startups can apply for the problem statements listed under this challenge and receive various fiscal and non-fiscal incentives.
Startups across SCO countries can participate which include India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. Entrepreneurs and startups having a validated proof of concept, Prototype to be tested and ready product which can be directly integrated in the corporate, can participate. Startups with market traction and paying customers can also participate. Scale-stage startups across the SCO countries can participate.
NTPC Startup Grand Challenge
NTPC Ltd., in partnership with Startup India and India Investment Grid (IIG), is launching the ‘NTPC Startup Grand Challenge’, to identify and support innovations and startups working in the fields of water conservation, biomass and clean/alternative energy utilising AI/IoT.

Startups should be post ideation stage, i.e. They must have a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or working solution in place that can be demoed.

Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge
Globally, India accounts for more than 10% of the fish diversity and ranks 2nd in the world in total fish production. Currently, the aquaculture market is estimated to be $17 billion, wherein 92% of production output comprises fish. The Indian aquaculture market is expected to reach $19 billion by 2022 and double the production and exports in the next 5 years.
The Department of Fisheries (“DoF”) is one of the two Departments under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying. Highlighting the importance of growth of the fisheries sector, the Government of India has made substantial investments in the development of modern fishing harbours and fish landing centres. Today, India houses 50+ startups operating in fisheries and aquaculture domain.
DoF, through its partnership with Startup India would like to identify and support innovations and startups working in the aquaculture and fisheries sector to accelerate the growth of this sector.
ITC Sustainability Challenge
The paperboards and specialty papers division of ITC is the market leader in paperboards for mono cartons, papers used for communication and specialty papers for niche applications like décor papers and thin printing.
The division is embarking on an innovative journey of substituting single-use plastic packaging with fibre based solutions. The vibrant Indian start-up ecosystem can be a key partner in the above endeavors. This will also augment ITC’s efforts to support and contribute to the start-up ecosystem of the country.
