Boson Cell, a company based in Chennai, has started making lithium-ion battery cells in India. This is the first time such batteries are being produced in the country. On June 4, 2025, the company launched two battery types — the 18350 B-30A and the 21700 B-50A. These batteries can be used in drones, electric vehicles (EVs), and renewable energy systems like solar panels.
Better than Imported Batteries
Until now, India depended on imported lithium batteries, mostly from China. Boson Cell says their batteries can be recharged up to 1,000 times, while imported ones last only about 350 cycles. This makes their batteries more reliable and long-lasting.

Support from Government Plans
India’s battery market is expected to grow big — up to $9.56 billion by 2030. Government schemes like FAME II (for EVs), the Production Linked Incentive (PLI), and Drone Shakti are helping local battery makers. These efforts aim to reduce imports and support Indian industries.
Focus on Drones and EVs
India’s drone industry is growing fast and could reach $13 billion by 2030. Drones are used in farming, defense, delivery, and construction. Boson Cell’s batteries are lightweight and can be used in many types of equipment, including drones and EVs.
Environment-Friendly and Easy to Buy
Boson Cell also focuses on making batteries in an eco-friendly way. Their batteries go through many quality tests before being sold. The company allows smaller order quantities and delivers products faster than imported ones. People can buy Boson Cell batteries online on Amazon, Flipkart, or through local stores and electronics shops.
Plans for the Future
Boson Cell wants to supply 10% of all battery cells used in India by 2030. They also plan to grow in international markets and are investing more in research. Their batteries are not only for EVs and drones but also for solar energy and power tools.
By making lithium batteries in India, Boson Cell is helping the country become more self-reliant in clean energy.
