Air Chaos Follows India’s Cross Border Strikes

Following India's Operation Sindoor targeting terror camps, flight disruptions sweep across North India as airports shut and airlines cancel or reroute services, affecting thousands of passengers

After India launched Operation Sindoor targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK, multiple northern airports were closed, leading to mass flight disruptions and cancellations across the region.

Airports Affected by Closures or Restrictions

Civilian flight operations were impacted at several airports due to security concerns and airspace closures. These include:
Dharamshala (DHM), Leh (IXL), Jammu (IXJ), Srinagar (SXR), Amritsar (ATQ), Jodhpur (JDR), Jamnagar (JGA), Chandigarh (IXC), Delhi (DEL), Bhuj (BHJ), and Rajkot (RAJ).

  • Bhuj and Rajkot airports will remain shut till May 10.

IndiGo Cancels 160 Flights

IndiGo cancelled nearly 160 domestic flights, especially those to and from high-alert zones like Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, and others. Flights to Gwalior were also affected.

  • Passengers were advised to check flight status on the airline’s website and were offered rescheduling or refunds.

Air India Cancels All Flights to High-Risk Zones

Air India suspended all services to Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot until noon on May 7.

  • Two international flights heading to Amritsar were diverted to Delhi.
  • Passengers can claim a full refund or reschedule without penalty.

Alliance Air Halts Regional Flights

Alliance Air cancelled flights to and from Amritsar, Bhuj, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, and Shimla for the day, urging travellers to confirm flight status before departure.

SpiceJet Alerts on Multiple Disruptions

SpiceJet confirmed closures in key northern cities and warned of broader delays due to cascading effects.

  • Full refunds or alternate bookings are offered to affected passengers.

Air India Express and Akasa Air Suspend Select Flights

Air India Express cancelled services to Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, and Hindon.
Akasa Air suspended all flights to Srinagar, citing full airport shutdown.

Delhi Airport Sees Delays, Cancellations

Delhi Airport reported 20 cancellations and delays to over 120 flights by early morning.

  • Passengers were advised to stay updated via airline websites or airport channels.

Airspace Avoidance Extends to International Routes

Due to the heightened military activity and airspace restrictions, several international flights also began avoiding Pakistani airspace during this period.
