Bharti Airtel’s data centre arm Nxtra Data is strengthening its data centre expansion strategy by acquiring major stakes in Rochak Systems and Rovision Tech Hub as demand for cloud infrastructure and digital services continues to rise.
Nxtra Data has entered into agreements to acquire up to 85% stake in both companies. The move is aimed at expanding its data centre capacity and supporting Airtel’s long-term plan to increase capacity from the current 120-130 megawatts to 1 gigawatt over the next few years.
The expansion will be supported through capital expenditure, external investments and strategic land acquisitions, especially in key markets such as Mumbai.
Nxtra Acquires Stakes In New Data Centre Entities
Rochak Systems and Rovision Tech Hub are newly incorporated Indian companies focused on developing land for future data centre facilities. Both companies were incorporated in May 2025 and have not started commercial operations yet.
Nxtra Data will acquire up to 85% ownership in each company through one or more phases. The transactions will be completed through cash payments at mutually agreed valuations, with Airtel stating that the financial details remain confidential.
The company also confirmed that the acquisitions do not require any government or regulatory approvals.
Airtel Targets 1 GW Data Centre Capacity
The acquisitions come shortly after Airtel outlined plans to significantly expand Nxtra’s data centre infrastructure. The company aims to scale capacity to 1 GW, driven by increasing demand from hyperscale customers, cloud companies and digital businesses.
Nxtra has already secured $1 billion in external funding to support its expansion plans and said it has a clear roadmap to achieve the targeted capacity through infrastructure development and land acquisitions.
Focus On Data Centres And Digital Infrastructure
Airtel’s investment strategy extends beyond telecom services, with the company focusing on building a stronger digital infrastructure ecosystem through data centres, fibre networks and cloud-related services.
The telecom major is also expanding its fibre network across the top 400 cities in India. Airtel has indicated that fibre connectivity will remain a key focus due to its higher reliability, better performance and ability to support growing data requirements.
While Airtel continues to offer fixed wireless access services, the company plans to focus on areas where fibre deployment is not practical.
