Actor Nayanthara has criticized Dhanush for allegedly blocking the use of footage from their 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix wedding documentary. Meanwhile, Dhanush’s production company, Wunderbar Films, has filed a Rs 10 million lawsuit for copyright infringement.
Allegations of Unauthorized Footage Use
The lawsuit claims that Nayanthara and director Vignesh Shivan used behind-the-scenes content from the film in Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale without obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC). The affidavit also accuses Shivan of unprofessionalism, alleging he was excessively focused on Nayanthara during the movie’s production.
Court Ruling and Case Progress

The Madras High Court refused to grant an interim injunction, noting that the documentary had already been released on November 18, 2024. The court has instead scheduled a full hearing for April 9.
Public Dispute and Open Letter
On November 16, 2024, Nayanthara publicly accused Dhanush of denying permission for the footage despite multiple requests. She claimed that parts of the documentary included clips filmed on personal devices, not copyrighted material.
Dhanush Takes Legal Action
While Dhanush has not responded publicly, he has taken legal action against Netflix, Nayanthara, and Vignesh Shivan. The case gained traction when, on January 28, the Madras High Court dismissed a petition by Netflix India to reject Dhanush’s lawsuit, strengthening his legal position.
