Tourists visiting the picturesque Dal Lake in Srinagar can now enjoy a convenient and modern way to explore its scenic beauty with the launch of Uber Shikara, a pre-booked water transport service. This service, available through the Uber app, combines the region’s traditional charm with modern technology, offering visitors an easy way to book shikara rides.

A Convenient and Affordable Solution

The service, introduced at Nehru Park on Dal Lake, aims to make shikara rides more accessible and affordable. Initially launched with seven locally-owned shikaras, the service plans to expand based on tourist demand. With government-regulated pricing, tourists no longer need to haggle for fares, and shikara operators will receive the full fare without commission deductions.

Supporting Local Shikara Operators

Wali Mohammed Bhat, President of the Shikarawala Association, emphasized the service’s benefits, including standardizing prices and providing a reliable booking platform for both tourists and operators. Many local operators expect increased business as more tourists take advantage of the online reservation option.

Flexible and Reliable Ride Options

The service operates daily between 10 am and 5 pm, with shikaras accommodating up to four passengers. Visitors can book rides anywhere from 12 hours to 15 days in advance, offering both flexibility for spontaneous travelers and convenience for those planning ahead. This initiative is expected to encourage more participation from Dal Lake’s 4,000 shikara operators.
